Spending half the year back in his native home of the UK, actor Anand Desai-Barochia’s biggest passion in life is maintaining a strong connection with his family. “My parents worked incredibly hard for what they have achieved in life thus far,” Anand says, “my mother came from a rented mud hut in Kenya and has retired as the chief of neuroradiology for the North of England. My parents showed me the importance of work ethic from a young age.” Citing that wealth and happiness don’t always go hand in hand, Anand’s top priority is making sure his loved ones are happy before all else.

As a young man, Anand took an early interest in real estate, viewing multi-million dollar properties on the weekends. Clutching a pen and paper in hand, he was sure it helped him fit into the official buyer community. “I also have a strong love for contemporary art and an interest in how cryptocurrencies are going to change our financial landscape,” he adds.

Speaking on his struggles and setbacks within the entertainment industry, Anand shares that his biggest one, “has been trying to figure out who I am and what my place is in this world. If you don’t know yourself, how can you play different versions of them believably? Thankfully, the older I get, I’m starting to get a much better grasp of it all.” Anand credits his very first project, A Holiday Heis,t as what kept him inspired to continue working in LA. The film, directed by Christie Will and cast by Dan Valez and Sherrie Henderson, changed the life of Anand and gave him the opportunity he needed to transform into the actor he is today. “I’ve always wanted to visit Sherrie, to pay my respects and to thank them both for what they did for me all those years ago. Sherrie, if this article somehow makes its way to you, thank you. Thank you and Dan (who has since tragically passed) for giving this non-union, British brown boy a chance in Hollywood. Thankfully, things are going well, but it’s all because yourselves and Christie gave me the opportunity.”

Anand’s career is moving forward full throttle, as he has embraced his character as Janzo in the CW’s The Outpost with complete commitment. Having a connection with Janzo from just reading the pilot, he knew that he could blossom his relationship with this character into something beautiful. Achieving great success after their first season, Anand attending Comic-Con this year for the first time having this to say about his experience, “at that moment in time, the show had only aired its first two episodes – so to still see a line out of the building for hours was definitely eye-opening in understanding just how big the genre world really is and subsequently, the loyalty of the fans that follow is pretty incredible too.”

With the support of friends, family and fans from all over the world, Anand shares he does however wish he lived in an era without social media. Thankfully having not been subjected to the criticism it may bring, he shares how decades ago the playing field deemed much more even without it. “Today, we live in a digital world and so as a young actor in the entertainment field, whether we like it or not, one is at automatic disadvantage if one does not have some kind of social media presence. Let me be clear – I am not for one second saying if you don’t have an online social presence, your worth is any less. The contrary. You are just not on an equal and fair playing field as the rest of your peers. Hollywood is fickle,” he says.
