It would be an understatement to say Anne Winters starred in a hit TV show. She captivated us, inspired us and evoked us through her highly acclaimed performance as Chloe in 13 Reasons Why on Netflix.
Sharing that playing the sexual and intimate scenes as Chloe was challenging, Winters let us in on how she personally grew from the role and embraced her character. “I definitely put myself in a vulnerable place and it really helped me to see a different perspective for the girls that have been abused or in extremely toxic relationships. It made me want to be there for the girls that need help in those situations. I have a lot of people reach out to me on social media – thanking me for portraying a situation they had been in, and it helped them maybe realize they needed out.”
Unfortunately, bullying and negativity can run rampant, not only on the big screen, but in our real lives as well. As individuals, we have a responsibility to use our voice and have a choice in which way we handle the pressures that society and social media can place on us. As Winters admits she feeds off the pressure and nervousness that comes along with her career, she said, “being in the spotlight comes with a target on your back, and people try and tear other people down. I know that no matter what I do or say, I’m never going to have everyone love everything I do. My advice would be to just be you and ignore the rest.”
Following her dreams at the vernal age of 15, Winters missed out on 80 days of school her first year alone. Along with football games, homecoming dances and typical teenage socializing – these ‘setbacks’ never held her back. “I debated on just going to school and going to college like my friends, but quickly realized that acting was where my heart really was. Anyone who pursues a dream will have setbacks; it’s all a part of the journey. You realize what may seem like a setback is really a blessing for the future,” she says.
In addition to becoming a new homeowner recently, developing a green thumb, co-writing hit songs with her musician boyfriend Taylor Beau and putting out the single Ride My Vibe – this busy starlet has a new project, placing her as Ingrid in ABC’s Grand Hotel. “Ingrid is very different from any character I’ve ever played before. She’s a maid working at a prestigious hotel and becomes a manipulative and devious character as the story unfolds,” shared Winters.
From one hit role to the next, we are confident and curiously waiting to see what’s next for this passionate and playful young maven. With groundbreaking performances and an Emmy under her belt at just 24 years old, this is just the beginning of a long and affluent career.
