Out of a desire for ski suits that were more tailored and fun, Jane Seim founded CORDOVA to make that dream a reality. Inspired by the free-spirited vibes of mountain living, the brand aims to bring that energy to the women who thrive on adventure. I got the chance to ask Jane all about what goes into designing for those who love both the fun of fashion and the thrill of the slopes.

What makes Cordova different from other ski and snowboard brands?

Style and the perfect fit. Our craft is designing tailored one-piece ski suits, inspired by the winter jet set culture of the 1960s and 1970s — an era defined by beautiful silhouettes that were both classic and iconic. At CORDOVA we play to the design themes of that era, merging style with the performance of modern technology. We ignite imaginations and bring an element of playful elegance back to the slopes.

I hear you source from artisans in both Switzerland and the United States. What can you tell me about that?

Selecting quality fabrics and trim is of the utmost importance to me and will continue to be a pillar of our label. We work exclusively with Switzerland’s premier luxury textile mill. Their experience dates back to 1868 and their fabrics are unsurpassed in terms of quality, durability and hand feel. The fabrics we choose are bluesign® certified, which ensures our textiles are environmentally sustainable. That’s important, we are designing for environments that depend on a healthy climate. Preserving these environments means preserving the opportunity to enjoy the moments we spend in them.

Our zippers are designed in Italy and made in Switzerland and our buckles are custom made by an artist in New York that hand casts each buckle one at a time. Each CORDOVA ski suit is handcrafted at a family operated manufacturer in Canada.

At CORDOVA, every detail is taken into consideration and our customers feel that when they put on one of our ski suits.

How do you balance practicality with stylishness?

All of our suits are water resistant and fleeced-lined for extra warmth. One differentiation that defines CORDOVA is the versatility of our ski suits. Each CORDOVA suit can be worn alone, or layered depending on temperature and climate. They allow the CORDOVA woman to transition seamlessly and elegantly from the ski slope to après ski to shopping or dining in their favorite winter destination.

What makes designing for skiing and snowboarding different from designing apparel for other sports?

There is a playfulness to ski and snowboard culture that seems to elude other sports. It brings about imagination and a sense of freedom within these beautiful, majestic destinations. There is a willingness to take more risks on slopes than in day to day life. I love that and at CORDOVA we design with this sentiment in mind.

How do you wish to inspire the women who wear your designs?

I hope to inspire a sense of confidence and empowerment in the women who wear CORDOVA.

At CORDOVA, we are an all women design team. We pay a lot of attention to every design line and how it will make the CORDOVA women look and feel. Women will find the combination of thoughtful design and 4-way stretch, compression fit fabric, will smooth and compliment their female figure.

When a women puts on a CORDOVA suit, I want her to feel beautiful, confident and timeless — because she is.

Finally, where are your designs available?

CORDOVA released a limited run of ski suits for the 2016/2017 season. They can be purchased online at and at our upcoming trunk show at Hotel Jerome in Aspen, Colorado, February 17-19th.
