How did Jack & Jack meet?

We met on the first day of kindergarten. We were in the same class, we had the same name and we were wearing the same shirt. We became best friends that first day.

When did the both of you realize you were interested in music?

Jack J: I’ve been interested in music as far back as I can remember. My parents played a lot of rock and roll around the house when I was growing up, but once I started hearing hip hop on the radio, that’s really when I knew.

Jack G: I would say somewhere around 2005. I started going to a lot of concerts and it made me realize that not only do I love music, but that I wanted to be the one performing it.

How did you transition from social media and vine to music?

I don’t think we’ve transitioned because we are very much still on social media. Music has been a part of our lives the entire time, but I think it happened naturally and started to change for us when we started releasing our own tracks. When our original songs started coming out, we just happened to have a social media following already, but we’ve been writing music as far back as I can remember.

What makes Jack & Jack such a unique duo?

I think what makes us unique is we’ve been best friends for as far back as we can both remember. Creatively were on such a similar wave length and this wasn’t a forced thing, that’s why it feels so natural. A lot of these groups and bands these days are contrived by other people and were not like that at all. There also aren’t really any duo’s doing what we’re doing.

What is your songwriting process like?

Our songwriting process usually consists of us in the studio getting a beat together. Once we find something that we like and can base off of, Jack G will hop in the booth and freestyle until we find something we like. We don’t move forward until there’s a solid base for the track. Once we have that locked in, we go our separate ways and write our own verses and lyrics. When we have those recorded, we normally spend the following weeks just perfecting and fine tuning everything to try to make it the best it can be. Jack and I like to listen to it over and over again to make sure everything is right for a bit before releasing it.

What do you think makes “Beg” stand out from music you have released previously?

I think it stands out because the whole song is very melodic and we’ve never done a song without a rap verse on it before. Also, the production of it is so simple and not overproduced. It’s just a really cool song because of the simplicity of it.

Beg just hit Top 40 at Pop Radio. What does it feel like to have your first Top 40 song? Have you heard it on the radio yet?

We haven’t heard it on the radio yet, but were really excited and grateful for all of the program directors that helped us get here! It’s just a starting point for us, so we’re really excited to have new people here our music who haven’t before. We’re so thankful for “Beg” because its showing us the ropes of the radio world and opening so many doors for us. It’s something we’ve never done before.

For those who haven’t heard your music before, who might you compare yourselves to, to describe your sound?

Jack J: We wouldn’t really compare ourselves to anybody because we don’t think we sound like anyone. Jack & Jack sound like Jack & Jack. The dynamic of having a singer and a rapper on every song allows us to be creative in a different way, there really aren’t any limits. Our music has elements of hip hop, pop and R&B. It’s kind of a mesh of all of these genres, which makes it hard to put a label on it.

Jack G: Jack and I also grew up on listening to a lot of reggae and punk as well. We’re really inspired by these sounds and our music definitely has slight undertones of those genres in there, even it doesn’t sound like it at first listen.

What countries have you not toured in that you would like to?

We want to tour in Thailand for sure, and then definitely Korea and Japan as well. South Africa is also someplace we’ve never been to, definitely want to visit Johannesburg.

Jack J: One of my favorite comedians Trevor Noah is from South Africa so that makes me really want to go there.

What does the rest of 2018 look like for Jack & Jack?

I think this will be the year that we will release the most music we ever had. Within the span of the next 12 months, we’ll definitely be setting a record for Jack & Jack.

We know that 2018 is the year that the world is going to start to take us more seriously musically. We both know what’s yet to come, and we’re really excited for how the world is going to react.
