Hi Trevor! What are your current projects? What are you working on right now?

I’m constantly working. I’m at my happiest when I’m busy, so I’m always searching for things to create and accomplish. I just shot two films back to back and am currently focusing on the release of my first book.

How was working with the Riverdale cast?

The cast is a collection of really strong, interesting personalities. It’s why they work so well together on screen. We all get along really well professionally and personally. Plus, they’re all ridiculously funny!

In Riverdale, you played Jason Blossom who pretty much died before the season even started. Do you still watch the show?

I do! I’m always curious to see where our writers are going to take things. Even when I don’t get to read the scripts myself, I try to tune in as often as I can. Sometimes I have to play a bit of catch-up.

Auditioning for Riverdale: did you have a feeling you would get the part or was it totally out of the blue?

In all honesty, it was a bit of both. I had a good feeling about my audition, but when it was still a total surprise when I found out I booked the role. I remember falling to my knees and cheering when I got the call.

When did you know you wanted to become an actor?

I actually didn’t know until after I graduated high school. I had done plays and musicals all my life, but I never knew what I wanted for a career. I always knew I had a passion for acting, but it wasn’t until I met a couple of key individuals who really believed in me that I told myself I had to give it a shot.

Do you prefer playing characters that are similar or totally different from your actual self? And why?

I almost see all characters I play as an extension of myself, in some way. Some definitely come easier to me than others, but every different role provides its own set of challenges.

What is the best part about your job?

The fans. Always, always, always and forever the fans. Being an artist, in and of itself, is rewarding, but the true fruits of that labor is getting to meet people whose lives have been impacted by your work. I cherish every opportunity I get to meet and interact with somebody who enjoys what I do. It’s the most gratifying feeling I’ve ever experienced. I’m so thankful.

What is it like seeing yourself on TV?

There’s a lot of feeling that comes with it. I still haven’t gotten over the novelty of it, and probably never will. It’s truly incredible to witness something that, at times, felt impossible.

Who is Trevor Stines in private? What do you do in your free time?

Oh, what a question! I’m a pretty quiet guy in my private life. I like to read a lot, I write poetry and I philosophize. I really enjoy learning and spending time with friends.

What is something only a few people know about you?

I’ve never really talked about it publicly, but I’ve lived with depression for most of my life. My struggles with mental health have taken many forms over the years. Depression isn’t “trendy,” it’s real. I finally sought help a couple years ago, and I’m glad I did.

Yes! We are glad you did, too! What is something you would tell your younger self?

Forgive yourself. Let go of all of it, you’ll be happier on the other end. It will still be hard, but you’re not Atlas. Take the world off your shoulders.

What do you think of social media? Is it a treat or curse?

I have a lot of thoughts on the pros and cons of the social media age. As with anything, it has it’s good and bad. There’s a lot of joy to be found in a more interconnected world, and it allows a lot of people to have a platform that they might not have found otherwise. But it can also be very isolating and will prey upon our insecurities if we let it. It’s important to be wary of dogma.

What’s something about the industry you had to learn the hard way?

People will promise you the world. You have to take that with a grain of salt. I’ve learned that to really find success, you have to be ready and willing to put the work in. Nobody is going to hand it to you, despite the promises.

And how do you cope with stress?

I train martial arts, actually. I train as often as I can- it’s a good outlet. Mentally, I try to remind myself that things will be okay, even if it doesn’t seem like it. I have to trust in myself.

Last question: what’s your life motto?

Something that I always find myself saying is “remember the human.” It means that, whenever you’re dealing with other people, no matter how angry or hurt you are, you have to remember that they’re still human. Just like you are. They have their own angers and hurt they’re dealing with. They’re own childhoods and experiences that have led them to where they are. It’s important to remember that there is no “other.” We’re all in this together.

Thank you so much for the interview, Trevor!
